Evil communications corrupt good manners. I am sure that you’ve heard people say this just as much as I have. As often as this scripture is quoted, it’s rarely quoted in its entirety. The beginning of the verse says, “Be not deceived” (1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners - KJV). I honestly don’t want to believe that people knowingly connect and remain connected to people who decrease their value. The act of deception involves a misrepresentation of the truth or lack of sincerity. Oftentimes, these unhealthy relationships are subtle and fly under our radar; which is why we must put some type of effort into ensuring that our connections are God ordained. Let’s make it simple… any person that does not support you in your purpose, warn you when they see danger, pray for and with you, snatch you back in line when you struggle, or have the ability or willingness to provide wise counsel… you need not be connected to.
I used to say that you couldn’t expect someone else to understand the excitement you have in regard to your purpose unfolding or you pressing towards your end goal when God didn’t give him or her that same vision. However, my thoughts in regard to this have slightly changed. I believe that even if God didn’t give someone that vision, if they are divinely connected to you, they will respect and provide support during your journey. Surround yourself with people who motivate you to be better and that you can do the same for. Amazing people surround themselves with other amazing folks. It makes me smile when I see my friends excelling, meeting and conquering things/goals they’ve set for themselves. If you can’t say the same… then you need to consider changing your circle.
Beware: There are some that will attempt to connect with you because they want what they think you have. There are some that will enter into your life and serve as a distraction as they will occupy your time, energy and attention while your purpose and vision die. There are some that will be present during every event and moment but will control the atmosphere with unenthused energy and negativity.
These are the individuals that do not help you grow but hinder your progression. Make sure that you aren’t having conversations about making apple juice and cider with people who are content with just slicing the apples up and eating them out of a plastic bag.
As a note, I am not only referencing friendships… this also includes relationships, mentorships, and family ties. Moving forward I will make a conscious effort to develop and restore divine connections. I will consult God in regard to the people I connect with and am connected to. I will seek wise counsel. I will be honest with myself and eliminate those evil communications that have the potential to corrupt good manners. I will support, pray for and with, encourage, and provide guidance where I can to those who I connect with.
